To the honorable Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution,
Ayatollah Khamenei, may his shadow be extended,
After greetings and respects,
Following the passing of the great Imam of the nation (may Allah be pleased with him) and in the absence of the infallible Imam (peace be upon him), the position of leadership and guardianship of the Islamic community, which is a lofty position and a heavy responsibility, has been entrusted to you through the Assembly of Experts.
Without the need for deep jurisprudential knowledge, without possessing religious and academic sciences, and without the need for extensive intelligence, one can conclude, relying only on simple and ordinary logic, that two essential conditions are necessary for a person to be placed in this position:
◀️ First, the person who assumes this authority must be endowed with the necessary knowledge and understanding to fulfill this responsibility; they must be brave, capable, compassionate towards society, recognize the welfare of the Islamic community, and be aware of current issues.
Praise be to God, we are grateful to the Almighty that all the aforementioned conditions are optimally present in your personality, which comforts the believers and strengthens the faith and belief that we have embarked upon for years.
◀️ The second condition that the seat of authority must have is that the people want him.
A religious scholar and jurist who possesses all the conditions for leadership, but if at least half of the people do not wish for him to lead and govern them, reason dictates that he cannot occupy this prestigious and valuable position, even if in knowledge and practice he is the closest person to the Imam of the Age (may God hasten his reappearance).
What prompted me to write this letter to you is that I have felt for some time that most of the Iranian people do not want you, or perhaps to put it more accurately, they do not appreciate you. In this case, I am not exactly sure whether the continuation of your leadership is beneficial for Muslims and for yourself or not.
We must keep in mind that the propaganda of the national broadcasting and the efforts made to form large gatherings should not distance us from the tangible realities of society.
Perhaps it is necessary for you, with the great attention you pay to the matters of the sacred Sharia of Islam, to personally investigate this matter after an accurate and genuine survey as soon as possible, and if necessary, find an alternative solution, in consultation with the scholars and elders of the seminary, which will, God willing, be a religious justification for everyone.
I have no doubt that you will enact whatever is in the best interest of the Muslims.
I pray to the Almighty for your long and blessed life with dignity.
Respectfully yours,
Mohammad Mahdavifar
