Twelfth Letter from Mohammad Mahdavifar to the Supreme Leader

To the esteemed presence of Ayatollah Khamenei

Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, may his shadow extend

After greetings and expressing respect,

I remember that towards the end of the war, the circumstances were such that Imam [Khomeini] (may he rest in peace) was compelled to accept the resolution, and as he himself stated, he drank from the cup of poison.

When the radio was reading Imam’s message regarding the acceptance of the resolution, I was at that time in Khorramshahr, among the deminers of the Eighth Najaf Ashraf Division.

The sons of the battalion were sitting with their knees in tight embrace, and some were weeping bitterly in memory of the martyrs. We could not believe that the door of martyrdom had closed and that we would not join the martyrs.

Years passed and once again the door of martyrdom opened in Syria. I wish I could have fought among the true fighters and been martyred, but I have a frail body and impaired lungs. I also suffer from chemical injuries, so such an opportunity is not available to me.

My eldest son is sixteen and a robust young man. I wanted to speak with him about participating in the war in Syria, but then I thought he would soon have his entrance exams, so I decided to delay this discussion with him until the end of Tir [July 21].

For a few days, a thought has crossed my mind to ask Your Excellency whether your male offspring, Mr. Seyed Mojtaba, Mr. Seyed Mostafa, Mr. Seyed Masoud, and Mr. Seyed Meysam, who, thanks to God, enjoy full physical and mental health, are prepared to be present on the Syrian front or not?

Now that the door of martyrdom has reopened and brave commanders and the children of the people are achieving the lofty rank of martyrdom in droves, the heroic presence of your children, or at least one of them, on the fronts would undoubtedly strengthen the morale of the combatants and increase their hope.

I pray to God for health and glory for Your Excellency and your noble and brave sons.

Sincerely yours,

Mohammad Mahdavifar
