Twenty-First Letter from Mohammad Mahdavifar to the Supreme Leader

To the Honorable Supreme Leader,

His Holiness Ayatollah Khamenei, may his shadow endure,

After greetings and expressions of respect,

Each year, on the eve of Arbaeen of Hosseini, to the astonishment and amazement of the world, millions of devoted people, driven solely by the command of love and purely for the love of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him), flood towards Karbala from all over the world, circling around that unique epoch in devotion.

Though it has not been long since I last wrote extensively to you, I have recently been freed from the torment of solitary cells thanks to the intercession of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him). Once again, amidst the fear and anxiety of all my family members, I take up the pen to speak to you this time in the language of plea.

Dear Leader; for the sake of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) and the blessed presence of millions of Hosseini pilgrims, now that all the innocent prisoners and captives of the household of the Prophet (peace be upon him) are honored by the meeting with the Friend after enduring the great trial of Shaam, you too release all political prisoners in Iran so they can return to the arms of their families.

Bring joy at once to the hearts of anxious and expectant fathers, mothers, spouses, and children and earn their blessings.

Ms. Narges Mohammadi, a young woman, has been sentenced to sixteen years in prison, as far as we know, for her activities related to human rights. She has nine-year-old twins named Ali and Kiana.

Pardon her son Ali for Ali Asghar of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) and her daughter Kiana for Raghieh of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him), and delight them in these blessed days with the renewed presence of their mother.

Many political prisoners, out of concern and with the intent of reform and the prosperity of the country, have written something or made criticisms and objections. Prison is not a suitable place for them.

Some of them, these days, are on hunger strike protesting their situation, and their health is at risk.

If you heed my request, we will all pray for your health and honor, and if you disregard my plea, the judge between us and you is Abbas ibn Ali (peace be upon him).

Peace be upon you,

Mohammad Mahdavifar
